The Carnival Has Come to Town
I haven’t been here long enough to have experienced the
carnival coming to Tabernacle. But, I
have heard some interesting stories by some of you about lots of drunken
behavior. When I think of carnivals, I
always think of how great it was going to them when I was a young boy. I remember them being nothing but fun. In fact, as an adult, when the carnival came
to Parkersburg,
the first year I was there, I gathered up the boys and took them. I was expecting the same fun that I enjoyed
as a boy. But, some of the same stories
you told me of our local carnival came true there in Parkersburg and I was devastated. It was a debauchery of an event. I was actually scared for my kids. That’s pretty bad. It is too bad that our society ruins some
cool things. Carnivals are supposed to
be great fun, but now I avoid them. What
has happened? I can’t help but think
that as we move away from God’s will, fun takes on a whole new meaning. Actually, fun takes on a sinful meaning. This has made me think of my own life. How has my view of fun changed? I am afraid that I have allowed this world to
affect it. So, in kind of weird way, I
am glad the carnival has come to town.
It is a good reminder for me to keep “fun” in His perspective not the
world’s!
Sincerely, Bill McGee!
